we have been celebrating this big event for months now! Sandi is about to join the rest of us, as Oprah puts it, for the best years of her life. If you know and love Aunt Sandi like we do, you know that she has not waited for a birthday to have fun!
......you just have to have the camera ready!

When I saw these advertisements on the wall at our tube station I had to go home and get the camera! All I can say is I sure am glad there isn't a face attached to these bodies...anyone you may know?

The Royal Observatory in Greenwich

It was a "brilliant" sunny Sunday so we decided to take a ferry ride up the river to Greenwich. We boarded at the Westminster dock just across the river from the London Eye and the Aquarium...close to Rick's office!


The Royal Observatory is home to the world- famous Meridian Line, Longitude 0. It sits high on top of a hill with an incredible view of the River Thames with London in the background. We also toured the National Maritime Museum and the Queen's House with it's magnificent Tulip Stairs, a spiral stir case with no central support column. As you can see, our tour guide didn't talk much but he sure looked authentic!

We're Back in London!

30th Anniversary...Sept. 1

To celebrate this great event, Rick and the girls surprised me with a weekend trip to the first Auburn game of the season. That might seem strange to some, not the traditional gold, silver, or even diamonds, but we met and married in Auburn....Rick was actually my boss at the Foy Student Union Building. As it turns out all our dear friends and family were in on the planning of the tailgate and the Auburn Tigers even managed to win their opening season game!





We had a blast and are so grateful to everyone who had a part in the event! Rick's brother, Russ and his daughter, Kaitlin drove in from Atlanta. My sister, her husband, Bill and her son, Rob took a day off and made the trip from Birmingham. My best friend from high school and "realtor extraordinaire", Lucretia, her husband Dwight, AND her children and grandchildren all came from Millbrook to celebrate the day. Grandmother, Drew, Robin and Mike opened their beautiful homes to all of us and put on a fantastic tailgate spread with plenty of hot wings and cold beverages. Thanks to Christy digging through boxes in the basement, the tables were decorated with ancient pictures of married bliss and Sandi even had a slide show of some of our most memorable moments.
Thank you everyone for being a part of our celebration and part of our life!

End of the summer

The boat is loaded with beach chairs, towels, coolers, snacks and all 5 of us....Tucker is staying home. It may hit 80 today and there is a cool breeze coming off the ocean so we head down the North River as the tide is going out in search of a perfect spot on the spit. Not much has changed - watch out for the kids jumping off the bridge, the tug boat and lobster boat "Sorry Charlie" are taking Sunday off!




The spit is packed today, Captain Rick did a good job of maneuvering among the fishing boats and yachts. Our boat doesn't take up much room and Christy and Doug's friends had already claimed a section of beach - now where is that sunscreen, Haley?



We finished the day at Rick's favorite restaurant - Mill Warf in Scituate Harbor. The chef has changed our favorite Cod dish, a few too many capers for me! But the sunset is always spectacular!
It was a great "end of the summah" day!

Dinner at The Mansion House

......by the kind permission of the Rt. Hon. The Lord Mayor! Which I discovered is not the same as the Mayor, but more of an ambassador for the city selected to serve one year. The Dinner was hosted by the Worshipful Company of Marketors and we were the guest of a couple of young, up and coming, "marketeers" who work for Rick at EY. It was a "White Tie" event which meant that Rick had to wear long tails and I had to wear a long dress, it was quite a POSH affair! We enjoyed the music and the conversation, the meal was elegant and we toasted the Queen and her all her Royal Family. ( Kind of like the song...Duke , Duke, Duke of Earl!) One of the most unusual traditions was the Ceremony of the Loving Cup. The Loving Cup is a huge silver goblet filled with mulled wine which has to be held with both hands. Each guest receives the Cup and turns to his neighbor who will drink after him and bow to each other. After the drinker has taken his drink he wipes the rim of the cup with a napkin and replaces the cover. They then bow and the process is repeated. Meanwhile the person who has finished drinking stands back to back with his neighbor to "watch his back". As the Cup went around the room I just kept thinking of the germs on the rim if that goblet...and we are worried about being stabbed. I don't think any one has been stabbed in the back since Anglo-Saxon times and the assassination of King Edward but you never know and "tradition" is one of the things I really love about this country!
